‘Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.’
Matthew 7 v 12 The Message
Many leprosy patients are very poor, struggling to put food on the table. We often encourage them to boost their income by starting a small business. This might begin with seed capital borrowed from the microcredit savings scheme of the self-help group to which they belong.
Sometimes, however, people do not even have the means to save in order to start a business. In such cases we give the capital as a gift.
Typical business ideas include:
- goat / pig keeping
- cow / buffalo milking / rearing
- oxen for ploughing
- hen / duck keeping
- selling goods at the market e.g. vegetables, bangles etc.
- training for a trade or profession
- sewing machine
It is important to match the business idea to the skills, ability and interest of the client. If you would like to support someone in this way please contact us. Any donation is hugely welcome, but from €50 you can really transform a family’s income.
